Foxglove Community Garden in Beautiful Crofton-by-the-Sea

Colourful Garden Umbrella

The Foxglove Community Gardens is a pleasant approach to offering the community an opportunity to participate in a common project, bringing young people from the surrounding schools, apartment and city dwellers who no longer have access to a garden, and Seniors, together in a meaningful activity.

The project offers the opportunity for graduating highschool students to acquire their community service requirements. Students from the Chemainus High School are already involved in designing and manufacturing the formal FOXGLOVE sign and producing garden ornaments and birdhouse collections.

We also offer cooking classes lead by well known cookbook authors and experts in cuisine.

New Horizons for Seniors Program, Capital Assistance Funding Program funded our kitchen remolding project in the amount of $10,635. Foxglove Community Gardens started the culinary school two years ago. It seemed a natural fit to have a cooking school combine with the community gardens. We now offer intercultural cooking classes and it has sinse become the prime source of income to maintain the gardens.

The cooking classes have also become a social meeting place. Our school was in dire need of upgrading and if we didn't receive this funding our cooking school was going to close. The money will be used to add new counter tops, flooring and plumbing.
